Alph had been working on a surprise for Leanne. It was something in his area of interest, but something he had to do alone. After all, he didn't expect to get much help from her family, and it was a Heron thing he was studying. As much as they made light of it, it was true Leanne had let herself change to be closer to Alph. The least he could do was learn a few things to try and meet her halfway.

"Welcome home, Leanne."

That thing being how to speak the ancient language Herons still learned as part of their culture. The thing was, even the pronunciation was flowery, the grammar even more so, and he didn't have anyone to practice with. So while he was certain he had that greeting right, he didn't know how well he'd do from here.
